6/16/2025 Legislative Update
We are now just two weeks away from the end of the Delaware legislative session. That means the typical rush that comes with a hard deadline. There are 20 bills being heard on Tuesday alone, including many that we’ve talked about in previous weeks such as free school breakfasts and updates to fines and fees.
That being said, the committees are less eventful. There are lots of bills being heard, but with limited time less in session, only a few important priorities are expected to make it through before the end of session on June 30th.
Most importantly, HB 13, which increases taxes on wealthy Delawareans, is yet again back on the agenda after having been removed several times in the last few weeks. Make sure to keep an eye out to see if it’s still scheduled before heading down to testify, but this would still be a great piece of legislation to get through.
Beyond that, there are two important pieces of legislation that prohibit local law enforcement from collaborating with ICE and prevent civil arrests in courthouses without warrants. Finally, a long-awaited bill that would require landlords to update their rental properties to make sure that they do not contain dangerous amounts of lead.
